A Thousand Splendid Suns (2007) Book Review

The author, who made his debut with the bestseller The Kite Runner, has been able to keep me spellbound telling the story of two women in Afghanistan .He successfully describes their thoughts which, I think, is quite an amazing thing for a man. A painfully honest story about the way women in Afghanistan have to deal with their husbands who interpret the laws of the Koran, the holy book of the Islam in a most personal way. Reading the book, I was really devastated and sometimes wasn't sure whether I really wanted to know what other mistreatment would fall upon Mariam and Laila, the main characters of the book. I am convinced that becoming aware of the situation as it is in this war ridden country gives us a better understanding of what these women are fighting for.
