The Vice-president of the EPAFI board, Maria Papaioannou, and the Secretary, Kallia Katsatmpoxaki-Hodgetts, attended the conference on Integrating new technologies in Foreign Language Teaching, which gave us all the opportunity to question existing teaching practices when it comes to technology.
Not just the organizers but also the Keynote speakers put emphasis on the need for Greek teachers, trainers and students to get acquainted with the net and not be intimidated by it. They added that this is the only way the embarrassing low numbers of Greek people owning a PC, using the net and having an email account can be increased.
They stressed the need to use the net, educational software, web logs, webconferencing and/or webinars as vital tools to network, exchange ideas with other colleagues, upload or download lesson plans on all sorts of topics, to publish or supplement our teaching practices and complete real life tasks. Issues of internet security and parent-and-teacher control were also addressed.
