Saturday 29th March EPAFI workshops

On Saturday, 29th March 2008, EPAFI organized two new workshops

delivered by Mrs. Vasiliki Rizomioti*, English for Academic purposes instructor at the University of Patras.

This is how Ms Risomilioti described the sessions.

Session one: 10.00 -11.30 am, 2nd General Lyceum of Heraklion

Teaching vocabulary: principles, approaches and techniques.

In the first session I will present some basic notions of contemporary applied linguistics and language teaching that relate to the nature of vocabulary and its place in EFL. I will analyse the notions of lexical bundles or multi-word units including collocations and lexico-grammatical patterns, giving examples. Subsequently I will ask the audience to identify these items in texts and group them. Finally I will present a number of techniques and activities which will facilitate vocabulary teaching and learning.

Session 2: 12.00-1.00, 2nd General Lyceum of Heraklion

Hedging in English

In this presentation I will talk about ways of avoiding saying yes or no and the reasons for doing so. Being able to do so in a second language is not always easy and learners need not only to become aware of this function but also to acquire this skill. Examples will be given and hands-on analysis will follow.

FREE Admission: No fee for EPAFI members. It applies to EPAFI members who have paid the annual subscription and their membership is still valid. You can join EPAFI as long as you are a university graduate qualified to teach EFL.

Admission fee for non-members is 15 € for both workshops and 10 € for just one workshop. Certificates of attendance will be issued to all praticipants. You are not required to book in advance this time.

should non-members let EPAFI know that they want to attend the seminars or not?

To maria's comment:
I don't think you should, since there is plenty of room for everybody!

δεν έχω πληρώσει ακόμα συνδρομή για το 2008. Θα υπάρχει κάποιος στις 29 Μαρτίου στο 2ο Λύκειο έξω από το session για να δώσω τα χρήματα ή πρέπει να το έχω κάνει νωρίτερα; Η κ. Ριζομυλιώτη ήταν πέρυσι καθηγήτριά μου στο ΕΑΠ (ESP module) και θέλω οπωσδήποτε να έρθω!

Hi, Dimitra,

I believe the treasurer of EPAFI will be there too! I think it will be fine if you just pay for your subscription there!

Looking forward to seeing you.
